Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
Where do we go?
• Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is the premier game reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. It is Africa's oldest conservation area, and is highly acclaimed for its remarkable save the rhino conservation project. This 96 000 hectare reserve is home to The Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) as well as cheetah, wild dog, hyena, and a wide variety of antelope, birds, reptiles and plants. The game drive runs through what was once the royal hunting grounds of the Zulu King Shaka.
• Zamimpilo Community Market
Zamimpilo Community Market is sustainable tourism at its best. It's an impressive market of more than 100 stalls, and it's run with creative efficiency to provide a seamless experience where you can access hand-made African arts and crafts. What did others say?
"An unforgettable wildlife adventure at Umfolozi/Hluhluwe Game Reserve with our highly competent and knowledgable tour operator and
guide. We spent a limited duration of two days at the game reserve, staying at an open-camp for the first time.
Luckily for us, we were well-protected by our guide who also allocated our time optimally
to ensure our experience involved game viewing, birding and camping.
With his well-trained eye for game we viewed bull elephants, black and white rhino (a rhino calf too), wildebeest, herds of buffalo,
giraffe, zebra, baboons and buck; waterbuck, impala and nyala at close range and from a distance.
Vultures (3 types) spotted at a kill site, secretary birds, and smaller creatures like the leopard tortoise and dung beetle added to our
entertainment. A hyena and bush-big were caught visiting our camp on trail camera set-up by our guide.
Each day of gaming ended pleasantly around the fire at our camp on the banks of the Black Umfolozi river that brought to us rhino and elephants."
