African Birds of Prey and Tala Private Game Reserve

A remarkable wild bird and game viewing tour to the African Birds of Prey Sanctuary that cares for a wide selection of birds of prey, and to the Tala Private Game Reserve with dense populations of free roaming wildlife and more than 380 bird species.

Where do we go?

• The African Birds of Prey Sanctuary

The African Birds of Prey Sanctuary cares for over 180 different birds of prey from 50 different species. The sanctuary prides itself on a high release success rate. Most of the projects run behind the scenes, so that the integrity of the wild birds is not compromised. The sanctuary is also home to a wide selection of non-releasable rehabilitation birds of prey which are dependent on the sanctuary for their long term survival – these are the birds that visitors get to ethically see on the tour. The local Mayibuye community owns the land on which the bird sanctuary is built and shares in a percentage of the gate takings, making this a sustainable tourism initiative.

• Tala Private Game Reserve

Tala Private Game Reserve is a 3000 hectare reserve hidden away, yet only an hour from Durban. The small private reserve offers impressive game and bird viewing with plenty photograph opportunities. The reserve's thornveld, bushveld, and wetland is home to more than 380 bird species, numerous waterfowl, and dense populations of big game including white rhino, kudu, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest and eland. The lack of large predators on the reserve coupled with its dense populations of game make for remarkable viewing of free roaming wildlife.
